Heineken Cup @ The Aviva

On Saturday Dublin was flooded with Clermont and Toulon rugby fans and we hit the streets to watch their procession to the Aviva. We watched the match at one of the official Heineken venues which is about 3 mins from our flat and the Aviva. It was packed with ticket holders when we arrived about an hour before the match. But as time got closer to kick off the pub began to empty out and we took our seats to enjoy nearly 2 hours of Jonny Wilkinson.

The pub had a very international feel with English, American and French punters. I thought the game was rather entertaining and we watched the last 20 mins on the screens outside the pub so that we could hear the roar of the Aviva 300 meters away. In true Irish style J had a  Guinness followed by an official sponsor’s heineken and I stuck to ginger ale served to me by my very own cockney barman, so I felt right at home!

As an official venue there were lots of games and promotors at the pub and James predicted the correct final score at half time and won a Heineken shirt. After the match we went back to the flat and watched the celebrations in the stadium from our roof terrace… it was a great Saturday in Dublin!
